Herbal Teas

Enjoy hearing about the history of tea and well-known herbalists (e.g., Harriet Tubman, Emma Dupree, Carlos Montezuma, and Susie Walking-Bear Yellowtail), who helped shape the evolution of tea in the U.S. Tulsa Garden Center gardener, Tatum Thrasher, offers suggestions of using these herbs in your tea: thyme, bee balm, rosemary, feverfew, and lemon balm.

 The 

 


Our program speaker was Andy Fusco, Acting Executive Director and Director of Horticulture at the Tulsa Garden Center. He gave a presentation explaining the past, present, and future of the iconic Tulsa organization, grounds, and projects.

April 11 & 12
Springfest

Delight in the wide range of decorative yard art, flowers, veggies, and herbs to start  your spring gardens and spruce up your home. Our vendors will be ready to help you find just what you need at our annual Springfest held on the lawn near the barn. This day is always enjoyable for dogs and their pet parents. 

     Step inside the barn and visit with  knowledgeable gardeners with information on orchids, lilies, herbs, vegetables, and other specialty organizations. And don't forget to visit the teaching garden on the north and east sides just outside the barn.

Topiaries and Sugared 
Pansies

Do you enjoy seeing fun and formal topiaries trimmed to a "T"? Have you ever wondered how to make sugared pansies, which are edible, by the way. Lucky us! Herb Society members Beth Teel and Teresa Dawkins will demonstrate the ins and outs and the tips of the trade to create a lovely topiary. Also, Herb Society member Marla McMahon will  demonstrate to how to sugar those cute little pansies--often used to beautifully decorate cakes and other desserts.

     Come join us in the auditorium of the Tulsa Garden Center mansion April 8.

History of the Garden Center Mansion

Learn about the fascinating history of the Tulsa Garden Center (TGC) from Gayle Campbell, 2nd VP of the Tulsa Herb Society. Did you know that the Tulsa Historical Society mansion and the Tulsa Garden Center mansion were built by two brothers? Learn how Woodward Park became a much beloved community area that we all can enjoy today. Join us as Gayle unveils the history of these important buildings and the families that called them home.

Special Speaker
Event

Our annual special speaker event is always a worthwhile educational opportunity. This year our speaker is Steve Dobbs. The Monday night session (July 7) is especially designed for the benefit of  Tulsa and the surrounding communities, and we meet in the auditorium of the Tulsa Garden Center  mansion. The Monday night topic is ornamental edibles in landscaping. Guests are  encouraged to attend.

     The Tuesday morning program is our July meeting for members and visitors alike, and our program will be presented by our special speaker. The topic is successful container gardening tips and tricks, including herbs and ornamentals. Come join us for this extended opportunity!

Tips, Tools, and Tragedies

Do you have some gardening tips to share . . . or perhaps your cilantro shriveled up before you got a chance to harvest any? That was a disappointment, but even our failures can be helpful lessons too. Did you discover a gardening tool that saved you time or made your life easier? Come share that information, too. What an opportunity to learn from our fellow gardeners!

Carols & Crumpets: A Christmas Market

Admission is free.

Yummy jams and herb infused vinegars are always popular.

Lovely handmade felt ornaments to grace any Christmas tree.

Fresh and fragrant, these ever-greens signal the Christmas season.

 

Our tasty Christmas bark sells out quickly every year.
